Our courses typically fill up quickly and completely.
It is always a good idea to contact us early to secure reservations. Promptness will increase your opportunity to secure a place on the class roster, as well as expeditious delivery of course manuals and materials. We encourage you to make plans early. With that in mind, we have the following policy. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Step 1: Registration and cancellation policy

    Course Tuition:
Tuition varies by course and includes tuition, course manual and materials, and use of team equipment. See upcoming courses for detailed tuition information.
We accept VISA, MasterCard, check, money orders or purchase orders.

    The Fine Print:
We will accept a signed purchase order or contract from a government agency in lieu of a credit card, check or money order, and we recognize this as a promise to pay. The same restrictions and policies will apply to contracts, purchase orders and money orders or checks. Full tuition is required to reserve your spot. Course Manual and Registration packet will be sent, upon receipt of your tuition. If you cancel your reservation, you will forfeit the tuition. Because we schedule instructors and pay logistical costs based upon student enrollment, we are unable to offer refunds for any cancellations. We highly recommend trip insurance.

    Course Prerequisites:
See course descriptions for specific prerequisites.

By checking 'Yes' I certify that I have read, understand and agree to the policies above.

    Release of Liability Waiver

IMPORTANT: THIS IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT

Please read and understand this document before signing. If you have any questions please ask us or consult an attorney. You are giving up specific legal rights by signing this contract.

Peak Rescue Institute, Inc., its officers, directors, employees and volunteers have done everything possible to assure that our students experience a rewarding experience. We wish to inform our students that rope work and rescues are not risk free. The same elements that contribute to the unique character of rope work and rescues such as the physical exertion or the risk can cause loss or damage to equipment, injury, illness, or in extreme cases, permanent trauma, or death. We do not want to heighten or reduce your enthusiasm for the experience, but we do want you to know in advance what to expect, and to be informed of the some of the possible risks. We ask that you read this, sign it, and return it to our office.

    EXPRESS ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK

There are risks that accompany all aspects of life as well as rope work and rescues. Some of these risks are inherent to the activity; some are changed, increased or decreased due to the activities of Peak Rescue Institute (PRI). You must understand and accept all of the risks of the activity, inherent and others. By understanding these risks, you enjoy better training and enjoy your trip.

You will be living, camping, and traveling out of doors, where you are subject to numerous risks, environmental and otherwise. Environmental risks include but are not limited to rapidly moving, deep or cold water, insects, snakes, and predators, including large animals, falling and rolling rock, lightning, avalanches, flash floods, and unpredictable forces of nature, including weather that may change to extreme conditions without notice. Additional risks are frostbite, high altitude illness, sunburn, heatstroke, dehydration, and other mild or serious conditions.

Rope rescue training commonly requires scrambling or climbing on rocks to train and to access training sites. Rope Rescue, rock climbing and rope work like all outdoor training and recreation activities is hazardous. The obvious accidents that occur in rope rescue and rock climbing are falling while working at heights and climbing. Whenever you fall you may fall only a few feet or all the way to the ground. As you fall you may hit objects or the rock that are in your path. If the rope breaks your fall, the jolt from the rope may cause injury. Falling to the ground may cause serious injury from any height. Participants will be wearing a harness and tying into ropes or cables. In addition to the hazards of falling, objects falling off the rock may hit you. Rocks, branches, climbing equipment and even people may fall and hit you as you are standing at the base or while on the rock.

Equipment may fail. Climbing, mountaineering and rescue equipment is tested before use, however the extreme conditions of the environment in which climbing and rescue equipment is used in conjunction with the damages caused by the rock can cause equipment to fail. The rock may break to which you are holding or to which you have placed protection causing you to fall or causing your protection to pull out from the rock. As you climb you may pull out protection from the rock.

You may experience cuts from holding on to the rock. You may experience rope burns from handling the rope. You may be lifted off the ground if you are belaying allowing you to fall back to the ground or be swung into an object.

Many times during rescue training and at all times rock climbing, you will be dependent upon your belayer for your final safety. Your belayer will be responsible for catching you should you fall. Your belayer may not be observant or may fail to catch you at the appropriate time. You have a responsibility to assist in the choice of your belayer and to make sure your belayer understands his or her duties and responsibilities as well as remaining observant.

Decisions are made by the instructors and participants in a wildness setting, based on a variety of perceptions and evaluations which by their nature are imprecise and subject to errors in judgment. Participants may have free and unsupervised time. Throughout the course, participants are responsible for their own safety and for the safety of other members of their group.

Travel to and from the training site is incidental to the training. Accidents can occur during travel to and from the activity site. Trails are often steep, rocky, and slippery. Hikes involve crossing streams, where footing can be awkward. Participants can slip or fall during a hike, resulting in injury. Poisonous or dangerous plants, insects, or animals can be found with harmful effects to some students. Exposure to the natural elements can be uncomfortable or harmful. Heat-sunburn, dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heat cramps, wind, rain, outdoor, using portable toilet facilities, eating meals out-of-doors, being in the open for the extended length of the course can be uncomfortable or cause injury. I understand and agree that Peak Rescue Institute is not a common carrier and rope work and rescue is for recreational and instructional purposes not for transportation.

It is also possible that some participants would suffer mental anguish or trauma from the experience or their injuries. This list is not an exclusive or exhaustive list of possible injuries, trauma or accidents that may occur while you are training. Most of these injuries are rare and you are not likely to encounter them. However, they have occurred, and you need to know about them and other possible injuries not mentioned above. These injuries occur more often when the participants are using drugs or alcohol or not physically able to undertake the activity.

I certify that I am fully capable of participating in a rope work and rescue program. I state that I have read the above statement on some of the possible risks in this activity. Therefore, I assume full responsibility for myself, for bodily injury, death, and loss of personal property and any expenses as a result of my negligence, or the negligence of PRI. I hereby expressly consent and assume all risks of the activity for myself including the risks associated with traveling to and from the activity. Should any sentence, clause, paragraph, or part of this agreement be declared unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining parts or paragraphs shall remain in full force and effect. This release is intended to be interpreted as broadly as possible to affect the intent and purpose of the release.

I have adequate health, disability, and life insurance for my family and myself.

I hereby give permission for transportation to any medical facility, hospital and I authorize for any qualified guide or medical personnel to render necessary emergency medical care for me. I hereby authorize the release of any medical information, including information concerning my HIV or "Aids" status, in the possession of PRI to any medical facility, hospital, ambulance, first aid provider, first aid service, doctor, nurse, or other such person rendering care on my behalf. I hereby waive any action or claim against PRI or any health care provider, hospital, doctor, nurse or first aid provider for the release of this medical information including my HIV or "Aids" status.

I understand that it is my responsibility to contact a physician to determine if I am capable of undertaking this activity.

I, of my own free will, for my family, my minor children, my heirs and executors and myself, have read, understand and acknowledge the risks and liability for myself and my family.

I have read and understand this agreement. I am voluntarily signing this agreement. I understand I am giving up certain legal rights.
