mark anderson Scholarship
The Mark Anderson Scholarship (MAS) is funded and supported by Mark Anderson (1959-2021). Mark was a founding member of the Peak Rescue Instructor cadre. In 2016 Mark retired from the Kirkland Fire Department as a Lieutenant after a 40 year career in which he worked for several fire departments in King Country, WA. In more recent years when not staffing the Peak gear cache or lecturing on rope rescue, Mark assisted the American Lung Association guiding their fund raising clients on training climbs in the Cascades preparing them to climb Mt Rainier.
Mark was responsible for most of the great drawings in the Peak Rescue Institute manuals. Since retiring from the fire service he moved to a beautiful cabin that he designed in Talkeetna Alaska. There are many people that one might describe as being so generous that they would give them the shirt off their back. Mark was indeed that person. Whether a friend of 30 years or someone he just met, your problem was his problem and he would help you solve it. His love of the outdoors was infectious. Scholarship recipients of the MAS are selected from applicants that are fire service rescuers with a love of the outdoors.

Terry Holt Scholarship
Terry Holt (1955-2015) was an avid outdoorsman, involved in hiking, sailing, kayaking, and cycling as well as an enthusiastic photographer, macrobiotic cook and writer. He was a devoted student - always ready to learn, to work hard and to master all that he undertook. Terry died tragically in the summer of 2015. He was deeply devoted to his family, his community in the Hudson Valley of New York and to helping others wherever and whenever he could.
This scholarship honors Terry’s bravery and devotion to his community in his 20 years of service in the Ft. Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department and in the New York SAR Unit. It also conveys our family’s gratitude to all those in our communities, and at Peak Rescue Institute, who continue to work and train others in order to save lives.
Terry attended the Peak Rescue Institute Technician Program as a scholarship recipient in 2009. He returned the next year to attend the Specialist course and continued to return as a Tech until the time of his passing. He helped with logistics and eventually became an apprentice instructor.
Priority for the Terry Holt Scholarship will be given to a volunteer firefighter or a volunteer rescue team member from the Hudson Valley of New York, or from the state of NY or the Northeast (depending on applications received) as well as to first time attendees at Peak Rescue Institute. You can download the Terry Holt Scholarship application form to the right.
